Who is Jason Lindsay?
Well… I am!
My name is Jason Lindsay (duh), and if you want to know more about me, this is a great place to start expanding your knowledge of Jason-ology. That would be, the study of me. Which, by the way, is an awesome field of study to get into.
Who am I really? Actually, I am, and have been, a lot of things. I am a software engineer, computer nerd, father, husband, son, brother, gaming geek, stand-up comedian, former death-metal singer, and occasional exotic dancer. OK, I’m just kidding about that last one… as far as you know.
I was born in Denver, grew up in Utah, moved back to Colorado for high school and college, and then moved BACK to Utah with my wife to raise our two kids. While I miss Colorado (especially the beer and the adult novelty stores), I enjoy being around my family and watching my kids grow up around their cousins.
Professional
I have worked as a software engineer for the last twenty years, from the old mainframe days (no, I will not read your COBOL listing), to web-based languages like PHP and Javascript, to the more advanced .NET framework and C#.
I like problem-solving and discovering and creative ways to resolve difficult issues. I think that’s why I like to stay challenged and motivated in my career.
Creative
I have always been involved in being creative, in a number of different ways. I’ve written short-stories and one-act plays, some of which have been performed at the high-school level. I’ve been in several musical bands, playing bass guitar and as a vocalist, mostly with my friends playing in different local metal bands in Coloraod. I have acted on stage, and most recently I have done stand-up comedy. I am always looking for a way to express myself creatively, and enjoy performing in a number of ways.
Nerdery
Is that a word? I’m not sure… probably not. But, ever since I’ve been very young, I’ve always been intrigued by fantasy, science fiction, and horror, and have always loved games. Whether it’s board games (my current fav is Carcassone), or video games (Bioshock, World of Warcraft, Fallout 3 and Rock Band!), or role-playing games (Dungeons and Dragons), I am usually engaged in playing or planning a gaming occasion, or just trying to get my wife to play some new game Ive just discovered. If it’s got lots of pieces, tons of rules, and takes several hours to play, you can bet I want to play it.
Personal
My wife and I and our two kids live in Utah County, and we enjoy it. I love being a dad, and my boys are the lights of my life. They’re always able to cheer me up no matter how much the real world stresses me out. I enjoy being a “family man”, and I couldn’t really imagine being any other way. I guess some people are just hard-wired to be dads, and I think that’s the way I’ve always been.
I am fortunate enough to be married to a wonderful woman who understands what a huge nerd I am, and appreciates me for it, and will even join me in my pursuits (even though she still has a hard time with the math when we play D&D).
There was a point in time in my life where I thought I was never going to have kids. Man, I’m glad I got over that!
