Ok first off, I gotta start by saying… I really like the new changes they’ve made to D&D.
The new races are pretty cool, and they’ve definitely gone for a more diverse set of basic races. The classes are well thought-out and the power sets all look very promising. It’s obvious from thumbing through the Monster Manual that they’ve put a huge emphasis on getting the action going quickly, and concisely, over filling them with a huge amount of rules.
So, I like 4th Edition… but I want my druids back!
For the uninitiated to the deep realms of nerd-ery, Druids are nature-worshiping spellcasters who have a strong bond with the natural world. So much so that they can change shape into animals such as bears and wolves, and often have animal companions that help them on their adventures. They possess strong spells gained from their connection to nature, and since they have more wild natures, they are fun to role-play as well.
I’ve played as druids in the past, and I was looking forward to what they would do with them in the new edition, but it seems as though the folks at WoTC were more interested in providing a fresh arrangement of classes that are more balanced, and probably fit better into their new power-wielding schema.
Monks, which are your basic kung-fu type fighters, I have always thought were over-powered, and from my past experience as Dungeon Master, I had trouble giving the monks my rules-lawyering, munchkin-tweaking players created sufficient challenges. I often had to detail specific monsters and/or obstacles specifically for them, since their abilities were so far superior to the other players in the group.
I can stand to lose the Monks, the Sorcerers, and even the Barbarians… but I want my freaking Druids back!
