Hunter got a Big Boy Bed!

I want my bed back.

And when I say “my”, I mean mine and my wife’s.  Our little one, Connor, has been a fixture in our bed since bringing him home from the hospital.  And while I understand that it’s important to have the little guy close, I don’t think he needs to be that close.

So, this past Sunday, we went to Ikea and bought Hunter, our oldest, a toddler bed.  We let him climb up in a couple different ones while my wife and I debated the pro’s-and-con’s of each, but in the end Hunter made the decision for us.  When we propped him up there and let him try them out, he picked the one he liked the most.

We put the bed together on Sunday, and we have slowly been transitioning him into it. He got to help put it together (showing me that’s he much more knowledgable about screwdrivers than I am) and he like flopping around on it once it was all done.  Sleeping in it, however, has proven to be a bit more challenging.

Nights are easier than naps, and we still have the crib in his room, moved to the other side.  This way, he doesn’t feel like Connor has “stolen” his bed, and if he is having a hard time sleeping or gets up a bunch, we can revert back to the failsafe and put him in his crib.

It’s definitely a process, and one that my wife seems to have more patience than I do for it, but I am glad that we have taken this step.  It hasn’t gotten me any more real estate in my bed (I have still staked out a small sliver on the side closest to the door), but at least it’s a step in the right direction.
