The waiting is the hardest part

So, I know that when our new son, Connor, finally arrives into the world, that our lives will (once again) be turned upside-down, and we will become those sleep-deprived, worrisome parents of a newborn we were 15 months ago.

But honestly, I can’t wait.

For our first pregnancy, we had the waiting and preparing and anticipation of becoming new parents that kept us busy. This time, we’ve had a rambuncuous one-year-old who loves to climb and explore to keep us plenty busy. And since we’re expecting a boy (Carina is still wondering if we’ll have a “gender surprise” like Scott and Melyssa did with lil’ Georgia), we don’t really have lots of clothes to buy, and we’ve got all the baby gadgets still safely stored away from Hunter.

But, I’m still really excited to see my youngest son discover the world, and join his anxious and happy family. I think this pregnancy has been more taxing on Carina than Hunter – the excitement factor has been replaced by the exhaustion of following our little “Goat” around, and so I’m pretty sure she’ll be glad when she’s not carrying 20 lbs of baby and fluid along with her.

There is also a large part of me that wants to get the whole birthing process done with. It was hard enough to watch my wife go through once, when you feel so helpless and inadequate in your ability to assist and can only “coach” her through the ordeal, but I’m definitely not looking forward to going through it all again. So in my opinion, the quicker we get it started, the quicker we can get it all over with.

We still have a couple of weeks to go (knock-on-wood), but I will be happy when we bring little C.O. (Connor Owen) home from the hospital to start his little new life.
