About a month ago, my wife and I joined a gym. I won’t say which one, but I will tell you their favorite color is Gold.
We went ahead and got the VIP membership, with unlimited classes and daycare (very important for a couple with an 18-month and 2-month olds). We also went in for the personal trainer, and that is the most important part.
We work out with our trainer, Sarah, 3 times a week, for 30 minutes of strength training, along with (what is supposed to be) 30 minutes of cardio. Honestly, getting the personal trainer was the best thing we did.
If you don’t have a lot of experience with working out, going to the gym can be intimidating and confusing. There are so many machines that do so much, you get lost and frustrated easily. Also, it’s way too easy to do the exercise wrong, and get little to no benefit from them at all.
Having someone there who can (a) keep you on a comprehensive program, (b) make sure you are using the correct form, and (c) keep pushing and encouraging you to succeed makes all the difference in the world.
We are really enjoying our new program, and we both like the additional energy and motivation we get after working out. It’s nice to have a long-term goal to get fit, drop tons of weight, and have a more healthly lifestyle, all while getting the instruction and direction we really need to succeed.
So, while it cost money (a LOT of money), we believe that our health – both for ourselves and our children – is an investment worth making.

Woo hoo! I go to a gym who’s favorite color is Gold, too! But I think I’m one of those people who go and aren’t getting anything from it cause I don’t know what the heck I’m doing. But it’s such a stress reliever and I love it! Way to go soon to be skinny Lindsays!
