Gamer Nerd
I have always loved playing games. Pretty much games of any kind. If it’s got lots of rules, several pieces, and takes an hour or more to play… that’s the stuff right there!
Video games were an early obsession with me as a kid (the day our local store got Donkey Kong signalled the beginning of the end for me) which obviously led to the family’s first Atari 2600 (yes, I am old). Since then I have played on several platforms, from SNES, through a gazillion PC games, and now onto the hated-yet-loved XBox 360, I still enjoy plopping down and wasting a couple hours saving the universe, playing in front of millions of virtual-fans, or just trying to get through a test course as a guest of Apeture Industries.
My wife and I have also had accounts on World Of Warcraft for the last couple of years. Although we don’t get to play as much as we used to, we still get the chance to jump online for a couple of hours here and there to get some quality time in Azeroth.
I enjoy playing traditional games too, especially board and card games. Right now my wife and I enjoy playing either Carcasonne or Cribbage, and have succeeded in hooking members of both our families into playing with us. I also enjoy playing Zombies!!!, and when I can get the wife to play with me, we still have fun. I’ll still play Scrabble or Monopoly, but tile games and other fun, intricate games hold more appeal for me.
I am a life-long role-playing gamer. Dungeons and Dragons continues to be my number one favorite, especially with the newest 4th edition rules that are out. I regularly play with a new group of friends I made after moving here to Utah, and we get together a couple of times a month to play. I really love to geek out with some pen-and-paper goodness.
So, while I don’t really consider myself to be competitive in the traditional sense, I still always enjoy something that is engaging, challenging, and provides a way to hang out and have fun with family and friends.
